The Building Blocks That Make Up
a Great Holistic Practice

 

There are eight key steps that you must take:

1. You MUST have Essential Foundations, which include a written down Practice Vision and Living Business Plan for your business (which includes being incorporated).  Not having a written down vision and business plan for your business is like deciding you’re going to travel from California to New York, and you set off driving out of the driveway without a map of how you’re going to get there.  If you don’t have a clear direction, how will you know which way to go?  How will you know when you get there?  Not being incorporated (and no, an L.L.C. doesn’t count) is just asking yourself to write needless checks for thousands of dollars to the I.R.S. every year!

2. You MUST have Essential Systems in place to handle basic office flow, appointment scheduling, new patient and existing patient procedures, documentation, financial policies, statistics tracking, etc.  If you don’t have your own customized systems in place, it doesn’t make any sense to try to increase your patient volume.  Sending more patients through a broken system is like trying to pump water through a leaky pipe!

 

3. You MUST have Essential Marketing, which includes an actual strategy (do you even have a strategy?), customized branding, and an online effective internet presence.  Part of this includes an understanding of Health Care Marketing, and what it’s going to take to get new patients in the door.  You also need to know what not to do!

4. You MUST know how to be Essentially Productive. “Time Management” is a misnomer, because you can’t “manage” time. “Multitasking” is a myth, and we’ll prove it to you!  Anyone who thinks they can get more quality work done by doing more than one thing at a time is living in a fantasy.  Research shows that most people actually lose about 28% of their work time every week from inefficiency and "multitasking", and most executives are even worse with up to 70%!  Most small business owners are frustrated that their staff isn’t more productive.  If you don’t know how to be super-productive yourself, how can you expect your staff to be properly productive?

5. You MUST know how to Grow Your Systems, so that your infrastructure can grow as you and your practice grows.  Are you having a sticking point in your practice right now?  It’s because something was missed in the Essentials, or you don’t know how to grow your practice systems to be able to accommodate the increase in business.  Part of this includes having products for sale in your office, so that you can increase revenue without having to work harder.

6. Once you have the infrastructure for growth, you MUST have Advanced Marketing Systems in place, so that you can fill up your appointment book with your ideal clients, and have a successful, sustainable, waiting list practice!  This includes having your staff helping you with marketing events, maximizing your recalls and reactivations, receiving referrals from existing patients, and advanced internet marketing.

 

7. Now that the patients are pouring into your office from all of your marketing efforts, you MUST Develop Your Winning Support Team.  How do you know when to hire more staff, or how many to hire? Do you know how to evaluate and interview properly interview potential applicants?  Do you know how to train staff?  How do you know when it’s time to release staff members from employment?  Do you know how to manage your staff?  This is a crucial area that most practitioners have little, if no training whatsoever.  Your staff will make you or break you.  Period.

8. You MUST figure out how to Get More Time Off.  Practitioner burnout is very common in health care.  When was the last time you had a non-seminar, non-family-reunion vacation?  How many weeks per year do you take off (we recommend at least four, six or more is ideal)?  Have you thought about bringing in more practitioners?  Do you have a retail natural pharmacy?  Can you have your practice run without you?  If you get injured and can’t work, how will you have income?  Some day, you might want to retire and sell your practice.  What steps do you need to take to have a saleable, sustainable practice?  These are questions you may not have ever thought of.  We have, and we can help you answer them.
